Martin was born in Zurich in 1974, into a family of Slovak origin and with a history in photography and painting. Observing photographers at work and taking pictures ever since he was able to handle the weight of a camera - "foťák" -, he was proud to be given one of his own at the age of twelve. He has not put it down since.

For Martin, photography is about separation. Separating the balanced from the messy, the action from the boring, the timeless from the fleeting, the beautiful from the ugly. He believes masking of the ­ordinary outside and beyond the chosen frame is what creates a picture.
